JUST IN: INEC Extends Voting Hours To Make Up For Late Kick-Off

The presidential and National Assembly elections were scheduled to begin by 8am and end at 2pm nationwide.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the voting hours in polling units where voting started late.

Festus Okoye, the National Commissioner in Charge of Information and Voter Education Committee, said the commission had anticipated that there might be some hiccups.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Saturday, he said: “What the commission has decided is that in any of the states where polls opened at 9 o’clock, there will be an extension of one hour and it progresses that way.”

The presidential and National Assembly elections were scheduled to begin by 8am and end at 2pm nationwide.

However, elections did not start at the same time in all polling units across the state.

In some polling units in Alimosho Local Government of Lagos State, election started well after 8am, as well as in Ilorin, the capital city of Kwara State.
